Apple is gearing up to launch its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September.
The tech giant has reportedly been working on a foldable iPhone for more than a decade and is finally set to enter a market dominated by Samsung and Google.
Apple is rumoured to call its first foldable smartphone “iPhone Ultra.” The device is said to be wider than it is tall and could feature a 4:3 aspect ratio, similar to an iPad, giving it an iPad-like experience when unfolded.
Here are all the leaks we know so far:
Display
The foldable iPhone is rumoured to feature an OLED display. It is expected to measure around 5.5 inches when folded and 7.8 inches when unfolded, making it slightly smaller than the iPad Mini.
Design
The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design, with an outer display and camera setup when folded and a larger inner display when unfolded.
The iPhone is rumoured to feature a titanium frame for added durability, along with aluminium for heat dissipation.
The foldable iPhone is rumoured to be around 4.5mm thick when unfolded, which would make it Apple's thinnest device yet, and around 9 to 9.5mm thick when folded.
Apple is also reportedly working to minimise the crease on the inner display, with the fold expected to be barely visible when the phone is opened. Apple is rumoured to use liquid metal in the hinge to help reduce the crease.
Face ID
The “iPhone Ultra” is reportedly too thin to accommodate Face ID, so Apple is expected to use Touch ID integrated into the power button, similar to its iPad models.
Camera
The foldable iPhone is rumoured to feature a dual rear-camera setup, comprising a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. It is not expected to feature a dedicated telephoto lens.
The inner display could feature an under-display camera, while the outer display is expected to have a 24MP selfie camera.
Chipset
The iPhone could feature Apple's A20 chip, reportedly built on TSMC's 2nm process. The A20 chip is said to be 18% faster and 30% more efficient than the A19 chip.
Battery
The foldable iPhone could feature a 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh battery, which would make it the largest battery capacity Apple has ever used in an iPhone.
Modem
Apple may introduce its next-generation C2 modem with the foldable iPhone. The C2 is expected to support mmWave 5G connectivity.
Colours
The “iPhone Ultra” is rumoured to come in Dark Blue, and White or Light Silver colour options.
Price
According to reports, the base model of the "iPhone Ultra" with 256GB of storage is said to cost between $2,000 and $2,500.
Launch
Apple's first foldable iPhone is rumoured to launch on September 9 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
