Indonesia may set age limit on the usage of social media to protect children from harmful online content, according to a Bloomberg report.
In a statement, Indonesia Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said that President Prabowo Subianto instructed his ministers to issue regulations to protect children in digital spaces in 1 to 2 months which may include social media age limit.
Regulators also aim to tighten monitoring of online spaces, improve literacy and strengthen enforcement, the Minister said.
This comes after Australia passed a law banning children under the age of 16 from social media platforms. The social media companies were threatened with multi-million dollar fines if they fail to comply with the law.
