YRF Compensates Telugu Distributors for ‘War 2’ Losses
Amid rumours of heavy losses following War 2’s underwhelming box-office run, Telugu distributor Naga Vamsi has revealed the film’s financial details and how Yash Raj Films stepped in to cushion the blow
Despite massive pre-release hype, the Hindi film War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, failed to meet expectations at the box office, emerging as a clear disappointment. The poor performance triggered speculation about significant losses incurred by Naga Vamsi, who handled the film’s distribution in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Putting an end to the rumours, Vamsi disclosed that the Telugu rights for War 2 were acquired for Rs 68 crore, excluding GST, with Yash Raj Films paying the GST amount prior to release. However, the film managed to generate about Rs 35–40 crore in share from the Telugu states, resulting in substantial losses.
Vamsi revealed that Yash Raj Films voluntarily refunded Rs 18 crore after the release. The refund, he said, was part of a pre-agreed arrangement to partially compensate distributors in the event of underperformance.
