In a major setback to Vijay Deverakonda’s career, the planned lavish sequel to his 2025 underperformer Kingdom, written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, has been shelved. Kingdom, which chronicled the violent saga of a troubled undercover cop, was conceived as a two-film project. In fact, portions of Kingdom 2 were shot during the making of the first part. The producers were so sure of the success of their franchise that they made lofty announcements about the sequel even before Part 1 was released. They burnt their fingers, leading to the decision to quietly bury Part 2.

According to an informed source, “Vijay is hugely disappointed. The past few years have not been kind to him. He is now counting on his next release, Rowdy Janardhana, to revive his career.
