Vijay and Ajith Kumar.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to wave the ceremonial green flag at the Michelin Le Mans Cup Silverstone round on Saturday, September 12, bringing together two of Tamil cinema’s biggest names at one of Britain’s most famous racing circuits.

The Michelin Le Mans Cup officially announced Vijay as a special guest, saying he would join the event to support the Indian drivers and officially start the Silverstone round in front of the grid. Vijay is in the UK on an official visit and is scheduled to attend the race as part of his London programme.

The weekend will have a strong Indian presence on the track. Actor and racer Ajith Kumar will compete in the LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage alongside his regular French teammate Romain Vozniak. The pair will race the No. 16 Ligier JS P325. Former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan and Aditya Patel will also compete as an all-Indian pairing in the LMP3 class, adding another Indian team to the Silverstone grid.

A SPORTING STATEMENT

Vijay’s appearance also dovetails with his government’s growing emphasis on sports infrastructure and motorsport in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister has announced plans for dedicated Olympic and motorsports cities in the state, with the broader aim of strengthening sporting infrastructure and creating opportunities for athletes and motorsport talent. His presence at Silverstone therefore carries significance beyond the celebrity factor.

“A special guest will be waving the green flag at Silverstone this weekend! C. Joseph VIJAY, Indian actor and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, will join us to support the Indian drivers and officially start the #SilverstoneRound.
