Vedang hopes to revive the singer-actor era with ‘Maskara’
The actor calls singing for an A. R. Rahman composition “a dream come true”
Vedang Raina is winning hearts with Maskara from Main Wapas Aaunga, a romantic track composed by music legend A. R. Rahman and picturised on Vedang alongside Sharvari Wagh. The soulful number has quickly become a talking point, not just for its melody but also for Vedang’s vocals.
“I still don’t believe it when you open streaming platforms, and my name is alongside the legendary AR Rahman. I can’t believe these two names would ever be taken in the same sentence. It’s a dream come true,” says the 25-year-old actor.
Vedang first grabbed attention with his debut in The Archies and later earned praise for his performance in Jigra, despite the film underperforming commercially. His rendition of Kishore Kumar’s iconic Phool Ka Taaron in Jigra had already hinted at his musical abilities.
Asked if he hopes to bring back Bollywood’s singer-actor era, Vedang says, “I really miss that myself as an audience. I wouldn’t compare myself to the greats, but I do hope that comes back.”
Up next, Vedang will star opposite Naomika Saran, granddaughter of Rajesh Khanna, in her debut film. “It’s another love story. I explored things in this character that I haven’t done before,” he says, adding that the film is expected to release by the end of the year or early next year.
