‘Social Media Has Become Hectic’
Says Vaani Kapoor, “If you hate or troll somebody, it will come back to you someday and sting you worse”
Vaani Kapoor makes her OTT debut with Mandala Murders, a mythological crime thriller packed with secrets, myths, and murder. At the trailer launch, Vaani opened up about her character, the difference between working in films and OTT, and shared her views on the growing negativity on social media.
Her remarks about online hate are being linked to the recent backlash she faced for working with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in Abir Gulaal.
Without naming anyone directly, Vaani addressed the toxic atmosphere online:
“Over the last few months, social media has become hectic and heavy. I hope people can calm down on hate and create room for love and kindness. I know it may not sound exciting, but what you give comes back to you. If you hate or troll somebody, it will come back to you someday and sting you worse.”
Speaking about her OTT debut, she shared, “It didn’t take me long to say yes. I’ve seen Gopi [Puthran] sir’s work and connect with it. This story is compelling, with intricately written characters. In films, we have just 2-3 hours to project a character arc, but in OTT, the character evolves gradually and with more depth.”
On what drew her to the role, she added, “I love action. It’s not high-octane here, but it’s realistic. We worked hard on body language to shape the character and ensure consistency across episodes. The longer format allows the character to travel and grow slowly, which was exciting for me.”
