Rashmika steps into horror genre!
Actress leads a suspenseful story from the creators of ‘Stree 2’; shooting of ‘Thama’ with Ayushmann is underway
Rashmika Mandanna is shifting gears. The actor, who has been part of romantic and action dramas so far, will soon step into what is uncharted territory for her — horror. She will star opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in Maddock Films’ horror comedy Thama. This is the first horror outing for both lead actors, and the first time they’re sharing screen space too.
Thama is a vampire story, a theme that has not been explored before on Indian screens.
The film is one among the spate of horror films launched by the production house, in the wake of its recent successes with the Stree franchise.
Rashmika, who recently brought in her 29th birthday, has been shooting for the film along with Ayushmann Khurrana. Both actors said they were happy to be part of the Stree universe legacy.
According to trade pundits, it is a good move on Rashmika’s part, since her Bollywood appearances have so far been restricted to testosterone-driven narratives. “She has barely been given scope for performance. She is constantly part of these over-the-top, hero-led narratives. She scarcely had a role in Sikandar. She needs to get out of the mould. With Thama she finally gets to experiment with a new genre, in this case, horror-comedy,” said one expert.
Thama will hit screens this Diwali.
