Nazriya Trolled Over Dubai Look
Trolls dragged up the 2013 Naiyaandi controversy, accusing the actress of hypocrisy over her fashion choices and public image
Actress Nazriya Nazim is facing a barrage of online trolling and body-shaming following her appearance at a promotional event in Dubai for her upcoming Tamil film, Scene. The actress attended the film’s pre-release event alongside co-stars Suriya and Naslen, wearing a stylish olive-green, off-the-shoulder gown.
Known for her girl-next-door image and traditional looks in several of her earlier roles, Nazriya found herself at the receiving end of dress-code policing and moral lectures. A section of social media users claimed that her latest look was at odds with the image they had grown accustomed to seeing on screen.
Several trolls also brought up a 2013 controversy surrounding the film Naiyaandi, when Nazriya objected to a director using a body double for a glamorous scene without her permission. They accused her of hypocrisy, overlooking the fundamental difference between a woman’s personal fashion choices and her right to consent to how her body is represented on screen.
But Nazriya was clearly not in the mood to let the trolls dictate her choices. Taking to Instagram, she sahred the pictures of herself in the same outfit.
Highlight: Fans and social media users came out in her defence, condemning the moral policing and emphasising her right to make her own fashion choices without being subjected to online abuse.
