Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte headline Akka, a female-led gangster saga set in the 1980s. Keerthy plays Bhavani, while Radhika essays Rudra, two formidable women at the heart of Pernuru, a kingdom shaped by deep-rooted traditions, shifting power dynamics and simmering rivalries.
Produced by YRF Entertainment, the series marks the directorial and writing debut of Dharmaraj Shetty. Akka unfolds in a kingdom built, governed and protected by generations of women.
Celebrating her birthday alongside the announcement of Akka, Keerthy says, “The love I receive from the audience every year makes this day incredibly meaningful, and being able to celebrate it by unveiling the teaser of Akka, a project so close to my heart, feels truly special.”
Keerthy has played an outlaw before, but she sees Bhavani as a distinctive character. “But Bhavani in Akka is one of the most unique and memorable characters I have had the opportunity to play,” she says.
Praising her co-star Radhika Apte, Keerthy added, “It was lovely working with Radhika Apte. Our characters bring such compelling dynamics to the story, and the interplay between them adds an intriguing edge to the narrative.”
Akka marks Keerthy’s first series with Netflix and YRF Entertainment. The actor said the distinctiveness of the story and the world it inhabits drew her to the project. She also expressed her excitement about audiences discovering the many facets of Bhavani as the story unfolds.
