Kajal Aggarwal will play Mandodari, the wise and dignified queen of Lanka, opposite Yash’s Ravana in Nitish Tiwari’s magnum opus Ramayana.

The actor, last seen in Salman Khan’s Sikandar, has already filmed several key scenes. According to a source close to the production, the role of Mandodari was considered too significant to be treated lightly. “The makers were keen to cast an established actor with strong pan-Indian appeal. The role of Mandodari in Ramayana is incredibly important, and it was imperative to find someone who could embody both the complexity and depth of Ravana’s queen,” the source said.

Mandodari is a figure of strength and grace in the epic—often portrayed as the voice of reason in the kingdom of Lanka. “She is the moral compass, a woman who empathizes deeply with human suffering. Kajal was the natural choice to portray these emotional nuances,” the source added.

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi. The film’s first instalment is set to release during Diwali 2026.
