Varun Tej has undergone a total transformation to play a possessed and wild character in Indo-Korean horror-comedy Korean Kanakaraju.

In a radical change from his conventional polished image as romantic hero, the actor sports long hair and a thick beard, and flashes creepy smiles for his lead role in the film directed by Merlapaka Gandhi and produced by UV Creations along with First Frame Entertainments.

Dressed in local lungis and shirts, his character wields a Japanese Samurai sword (Katana) and handles grenades. He also delivers lines in Korean after executing high-octane slaughter sequences under a full moon.

“It is easily the most challenging role of my career,” Varun Tej says. “I had to learn Korean. Even more tough was the physical transformation. I’d look in the mirror and wonder who the stranger was!”
