Fresh from his National Award win for 12th Fail — which he shares with none other than Shah Rukh Khan — Vikrant Massey is basking in a moment of well-earned recognition. Yet, the actor remains grounded, reflecting on the roles that brought him here.
Despite a recent attempt to break the mould with an urban lover-boy role in Aankhon Ki Gustakhiya, Vikrant was met with lukewarm response. His strongest performances, he admits, have consistently come from playing non-urban characters. “I’ve hardly ever played urban characters. I’m proud of having portrayed so many non-urban roles because I feel the heart of real India beats in its interiors. If I’ve managed to capture that heartbeat in my performances, I’ve done my job.”
On the impact of 12th Fail, he adds, “Yes, of course, I can feel the change — in how people see me, and in how the fraternity responds. It feels great. I’m really happy. There are far better roles coming my way now, and with that, a greater sense of responsibility. I’m looking forward to embracing this new phase with care and intention.”
