‘I-pill has no adverse effect on foetus’
The pill should be taken within the 72-hour window, otherwise its effectiveness gets reduced gradually
Q I had unprotected sex 20-25 days back. Now, last week just 2-3 days before my periods, I took I-Pill. After a week, I went for pregnancy test and the report was positive. Will I-pill have any side effect on my baby? Also, will it be safe to continue with pregnancy?
The emergency contraceptive pill should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. The earlier the better. Otherwise, its effectiveness gets reduced. Since your pregnancy is within the 12-week period, you may undergo Medical Termination of Pregnancy through suction method. Most hospitals have this facility. In general, the contraceptive pill has no adverse effects on the foetus.
Q I am a 27-year-old woman who has been married for a year. My husband is in the Army. I have not conceived yet. Recently, my husband has been showing interest in rear entry. Is this the reason that I am not becoming pregnant?
No. Rear entry sexual posture will not come in the way of a pregnancy. For a pregnancy to occur, the man’s and the woman’s reproductive systems should be healthy. The man should have at least 20 million sperms per millilitre of semen. Out of this, at least 50 percent sperms should have good structure (morphology) and 30 percent should have fast progressive movement (motility). The woman should be releasing a healthy egg every month. Her fallopian tubes should not be blocked. Her uterus should be healthy and of adequate size. The innermost part (endometrium) of the uterus should be healthy. Above all, intercourse should be occurring around the time of ovulation (egg release). Since your husband is in the army, are you allowed to stay with him at the camp? If not, how often you two can meet? The frequency of your intercourse may have a bearing on your (lack of) pregnancy..
