Veteran actress Hema Malini is set to celebrate 60 years in cinema with The Dream Girl’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Mumbai’s Shanmukhananda Hall on July 10. The special event will mark the first time she sings live on stage.

“They are insisting. They say the audience wants me to sing on stage,” says the iconic star.

Acknowledging that she has sung for movies, she says, “I sang a song with Kishore Kumarji in my film Haath Ki Safaai. The song Peene waalon ko peene ka bahana chahiye was a big hit. I also sang for composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal in two films — Aap Beati and Dream Girl. That apart, I’ve recorded some non-film songs as well. But to sing on stage for the first time…I don’t know. I am a dancer, not a singer.”

The concert will trace her journey from Sapnon Ka Saudagar to her current role as a parliamentarian, blending music, memories and personal anecdotes. A 15-piece live orchestra will accompany the performance. Reflecting on her six-decade career, Hema said, “Is it really sixty years? I don’t feel it. I started when I was barely 16 with Raj Kapoor in Sapnon Ka Saudagar. It’s been quite a journey!”

Hema Malini has no less than 40 blockbusters to her credit in Hindi cinema
