G. V. Prakash Kumar and Ilaiyaraaja.

Veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja has been dropped from director Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s upcoming Tamil film, Pocket Novel. He has been replaced by G. V. Prakash Kumar.

The maestro’s name was conspicuously missing from the team announcement released after the film wrapped its shoot.

While no official reason has been given, industry insiders cite creative differences for his exit from the film, which stars Vijay Sethupathi, Raj B Shetty and Malavika Mohanan.

Speculation erupted when the production team celebrated the completion of shooting and fans noticed Ilaiyaraaja’s name missing from the credits.

The move has surprised many, as Ilaiyaraaja had previously collaborated successfully with Kumararaja on the critically acclaimed Ninaivo Oru Paravai segment in the anthology Modern Love Chennai.

Pocket Novel remains highly anticipated, marking Kumararaja’s return to feature filmmaking after Super Deluxe (2019).
