From Bros To Cold Wars?
After War 2’s lukewarm run, the Hrithik–NTR camaraderie seems to be cracking
Was all the bonhomie between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR just an eyewash? That’s the question buzzing in B-town after the lukewarm fate of War 2.
The film’s poor reviews — especially criticism of Hrithik Roshan’s performance and the weak characterisation of Jr NTR — have left both fan bases disheartened. But the real gossip took off when eagle-eyed netizens spotted that Hrithik had unfollowed Jr NTR on social media barely a week after the release. (Interestingly, dad Rakesh Roshan still follows him.)
What raised more eyebrows was Hrithik’s sharp shift in tone — from showering praise on NTR during promotions to posting only generic “thank you” notes after release. “In this day and age, following or unfollowing on Instagram is seen as a benchmark of closeness. Maybe they were never friends in the first place,” quipped one fan, while another suggested the camaraderie was just a strategy to tap into NTR’s massive Southern stardom.
Industry whispers add fuel: barring one joint event, the duo barely promoted together, with Hrithik firmly holding the spotlight. “They were trying to leverage NTR’s stardom. It didn’t work. And now, instead of taking onus, it looks like a case of passing the buck. The failure of War 2 doesn’t affect NTR, but it does impact Hrithik,”says an industry insider.
