Ektaa Kapoor called out alleged “Hinduphobia” in the entertainment industry, stating that she has historically faced deep bias and judgment for openly expressing her faith.

The producer remembers being labelled a “freak” and a “tantrik” in her younger years simply for wearing a tika (sacred forehead mark) and a dhaaga (sacred thread). She also recalls people being surprised to learn that she had visited a mandir (temple) before heading to a club, reflecting what she perceived as an assumption that religious devotion and a modern lifestyle could not coexist.

She also questioned the industry’s differing attitudes towards Western fantasy and mythology and Indian folklore, pointing to the resistance Hindu cultural themes have sometimes faced in mainstream storytelling.

“I am glad, really glad, that the scenario is changing now. There was a time when I was questioned for wearing my religious beliefs on my sleeve. Today one needn’t feel apologetic about wearing a tikka or rings. We are also proudly making films that rediscover our religious roots,” she said.
