Author Amish Tripathi has dismissed reports claiming Ranveer Singh will play Lord Shiva in the film adaptation of his bestselling novel The Immortals of Meluha.

Speculation around the project intensified after reports suggested Ranveer had been finalised for the ambitious mythological adaptation. However, when Hyderabad Chronicle contacted Amish, who is currently in the UK, the author clarified that discussions are still at a very early stage.

“I can’t comment on who is playing what role, obviously. All that conversation only comes once a deal is signed. That is step 2. We are at step 1,” Amish said.

He further clarified that no agreement has been signed and the adaptation rights still remain with him. “Step 1 is that there is no deal that has been signed. And the rights are with me,” he added.

While denying the reports, Amish also praised Ranveer Singh’s acting abilities. “Ranveer is one of India’s finest actors ever, in my opinion. But the news of this deal being signed is not true,” he said.

Published in 2010, The Immortals of Meluha became a massive bestseller and launched Amish’s Shiva Trilogy, with film adaptation rumours surfacing repeatedly over the years.
