Actor Aishwarya Rai has taken a firm stand against street harassment, emphasising that the responsibility should never be placed on women or their appearance. Speaking as part of L’Oréal Paris’ Stand Up training programme she urged people to call out harassment instead of normalising it. In a video shared on Instagram, Aishwarya pushes back against familiar cultural advice that tells women to shrink themselves or avoid eye contact.
Instead, she offers a counter-narrative: “Street harassment. How do you deal with it? Avoid eye contact? No. Look the problem directly in the eyes. Hold your head high.” Describing herself as both “feminine and feminist,” she reinforces the importance of self-worth.
