It took over three decades, but Shah Rukh Khan has finally clinched his first National Award for Best Actor—and fans are calling it poetic justice. The actor accepted the honour for Jawan.

Overwhelmed and emotional, SRK took to Instagram to express his gratitude: “To be honoured with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime… In a world full of noise, to be heard, truly heard, is a blessing.” Director Atlee, who helmed Jawan, was equally moved, “It’s just my first love letter to you—more to come,” he wrote on X. Music maestro A.R. Rahman kept it simple, “Congratulations, legend.”

Too Little, Too Late?

But amid celebration came waves of nostalgia and vindication. Fans recalled the actor’s past near-misses—especially the 2004 snub for Swades, when the award controversially went to Saif Ali Khan. A resurfaced clip of SRK joking about the loss—“How much more public shame do you want me to go through?”—struck a chord with fans.

Fans online echoed that thought: “He was denied for Swades, My Name is Khan, and Chak De!. The jury finally took off the blinkers.”
