Vamsi Lifts Four Medals At Powerlifting Worlds
Vamsi won gold in the Squat section with a lift of 287.5 kg
HYDERABAB: Telangana’s Modem Vamsi produced an impressive performance to win four medals — two golds, a silver and a bronze — at the World Sub-Junior & Junior Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Champion-ships being held in Sun City, South Africa.
Competing in the Junior 66kg category, Vamsi won gold in the Squat section with a lift of 287.5 kg, ahead of USA’s Brady Price (275 kg) and Japan’s Ryuichi Inubushi (255 kg), who took silver and bronze respectively. Vamsi also topped the Deadlift with a lift of 255 kg. Brady Price and Uuganbat Batsukh of Mongolia shared silver with 235 kg while Inubushi settled for bronze with 195 kg. Vamsi collected his third medal in Bench Press, his effort of 145 kg got him a bronze, behind Brady Price (187.5 kg) and Inubushi (180 kg).
The cumulative weight of 687.5 kgs helped Vamsi to the silver spot in the overall championship, behind Brady Price (697.5 kg) and ahead of Inubushi (630 kg). Vamsi hails from Bhadradri Kothagudem and trains at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad.
