Hyderabad: Opening day’s leaders held their nerves on the second day as well at the 6th YAI Secunderabad Club GMR Sports Youth Open Regatta which delivered full monsoon conditions — constant rain, harsh squalls and winds that shifted without warning.
Shringhari Roy of Secunderabad Sailing Club (SSC) continued to lead SK Rameeza Bhanu of TSA and Srishti Singh of SSC in the Optimist Main girls’ fleet. B. Ravi Kumar of TSA stayed on top of the Optimist Main boys’ fleet. Hriethik Amar Jaiswal of TSC remained in lead in the ILCA 6 boys while India’s No.1 29er pair of Akash Tangai & Krishna Diwakar of TSC were ahead of their fleet.
The girls’ fleets produced some standout sailing of the day. Tulsi Patle of NSS leads ILCA 4 girls with a near-flawless card. Krithika Vishwanathan of Secunderabad Sailing Club sits second, the two of them setting the pace in a fiercely contested fleet.
Youth was no barrier at the front, 11-year-old D. Aanya Reddy of the Secunderabad Sailing Club leads the Optimist Green girls’ fleet — the entry-level division where many of these sailors are racing their first national ranking event.
The sailors who read the gusts and shifts early made gains, while those who fought the conditions lost ground — a day that showed the value of good coaching and sharp in-race tactics. Mind over muscle.
The intensity told in the protest room, too. Day-2 brought a rise in scoring protests, clashes on water and a sharper competitive edge across the fleets — a sign of just how fierce youth sailing in India has become.
