RCB Announces Rs 25 Lakh Compensation to Families of Stampede Victims
The franchise said the financial support was being extended under its new initiative 'RCB Cares'
BENGALURU: Under its RCB Cares created to support victims/injured of stampede at the Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4 this year, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), franchise cricket team, on Saturday announced hike in ex gratia amount to 11 victims in the stampede incident from earlier announced Rs 10 lakh each to Rs 25 lakh.
The names of 11 dead in the stampede are identified as Divyanshi (13), Shivalinga (17), Chinmayi (19), Sahana (25), Akshata (27), Devi (29), Doresha (32), Manoj (33), Bhumik, Shravan and Prajwal, all 20.
A huge crowd gathering outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru city on June 4 led to stampede after fans/followers of Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a desperate attempt to enter the stadium to witness the felicitation ceremony of RCB team winners of Indian Premier League (IPL)-2025.
The Chinnaswamy stadium can accommodate about 35,000 spectators but large numbers of fans/followers estimated to be about 3 lakh assembled around the stadium and many eager fans/followers tried to make their way into the stadium leading to stampede. 11 persons died and as many as 70 injured in the stampede.
On June 5 a day after the stampede left 11 fans of RCB dead, RCB announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh and RCB termed the financial support to the victims “A mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity.”
RCB on Saturday “RCB has extended Rs 25 lakh each to the families of victims. Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity and ongoing care.”
Continuing, RCB in a statement on his social networking site stated “This is also the beginning of RCB Cares” a long-term commitment for meaningful action that begins by honouring their memory. Every step forward will reflect what the fans feel, expect and deserve.”
The statement said, “We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our commitment and our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us.”
