The Indian Premier League (IPL) is facing a major decline in its viewership during the 2026 season. Television viewership this season has dropped by around 26% compared to previous seasons. Television ratings have declined by approximately 18.8% at the same time Advertiser Participation has also reportedly decreased, with the number of brand advertising falling by around 31%.

However, digital streaming platforms like Jio-Hotstar continue to record strong engagement and viewership, indicating that the audience (younger generation) has shifted from traditional television to digital platforms and online streaming apps.

The drastic drop in viewership might be the result of the absence of popular figures like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma from the game due to injuries. The audience has lost interest in the game due to high-scoring matches and the pitches made for batting, creating an imbalance in the game, making it difficult for the bowlers. Viewers suggest that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has lost its charm due to the several high-scoring matches, which make the game one-sided and not so interesting.
