Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match number 25 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
Chennai Super Kings will be led by MS Dhoni after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow fracture.
“We have an uncapped player, MS Dhoni, who will take over as captain for the remainder of the IPL,” CSK head coach Stephen Fleming told mediapersons ahead of the match against KKR.
Currently placed ninth in the points table, CSK have lost their last four matches and will be looking to bounce back against KKR. They will take some solace from their batting performance in the previous game against Punjab Kings, which they lost by 18 runs after being set a stiff target of 219.
CSK haven’t found much success at home either, losing two out of three games at Chepauk. They’ll hope for a change in fortunes, especially from their spinners, who were key to their success at this venue in previous seasons.
All eyes will be on Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored a quickfire 27 off 12 balls against PBKS, including three sixes and a four. A positive takeaway for CSK is the form of their top three batters. The team will now look for meaningful contributions from the middle order and expect spin trio R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad to make an impact.
KKR, meanwhile, will enter the match after a narrow loss against Lucknow Super Giants and will be eager to get back to winning ways. They will rely heavily on their powerful batting line-up, which includes Quinton de Kock, Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh. Their bowlers, who were expensive against LSG, will look to bounce back at Chepauk.
Given their current form, KKR might appear to have the upper hand. However, a CSK side under Dhoni’s captaincy is never one to be underestimated.
Head-to-Head Record:
CSK and KKR have faced each other in 30 matches, with Chennai winning 19 times and KKR winning 10, while one match ended with no result..
