Income Tax Players Make National Bridge Semifinals

Hyderabad: Team Income Tax made it to the semifinals of the 3rd Shree Cement Inter-state Bridge championship being played at the Jalvihar Grand Lawns on Necklace Road, Hyderabad.

In the final to be played on Tuesday, Haryana will take on Maharashtra while Income Tax will square up against Telangana ‘A’ in the playoff for the losing semifinalists.

As many as 36 teams representing various states and sports associations of different departments like Income Tax, Indian Railways, Atomic Energy, Petroleum Board took part in the tournament which is being hosted by the Telangana Bridge Association in association with Bridge Federation of India and Sports Authority of India.

The Women’s Bridge National Championship is also being held simultaneously at the venue in which around 18 teams are representing various states.

Telangana Bridge Association president Prabhat Kumar Gupta, IRS, currently working as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax at Hyderabad, informed that Bridge is an important mind game like chess and is played internationally with Indian teams having won medals at Asian as well as Commonwealth Games.

“The National championship hosted by TBA at Hyderabad will help spread awareness about this intellectually stimulating mind game among the youth, children, ladies and men of Telangana and remove the doubt that Bridge, being a card game, has anything to do with gambling. The TBA in association with BFI is planning to reach out to various schools, colleges, clubs to popularise this mind-game in Telangana,” he said.
