PM Modi salutes 'divyang' athletes in Mann ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the success of the Indian blind cricket team and the Rio Paralympics medallists in 'Mann ki Baat'.

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’ congratulated the Indian blind cricket team for winning the T20 World Cup for the Blind.

The Indian team thrashed arch rivals Pakistan in the final, beating them by 9 wickets to claim their second consecutive title.

“By beating Pakistan in the final and becoming world champions for the second time in a row, the Indian blind cricket team has made the country proud,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister also took time to point out the efforts of the Indian sportspersons who won medals at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal in Men’s High Jump T42 event with Varun Bhati taking bronze while Devendra Jhajharia also clinched the yellow metal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46.

Deepa Malik became the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics after she clinched the silver medal in the Women’s Shot Put F53 event.

“We must appreciate the success of our divyang athletes at the Rio Paralympics,” PM Modi added.
