Czech shooting: Bronze for Heena Sindhu as India bag 7 medals

Heena shot 218.8 in the eight-woman final on the championship's final day to finish third.

New Delhi: Heena Sindhu claimed bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol as India ended the Grand Prix of Liberation shooting championships in Plzen, Czech Republic, with seven medals.

Heena shot 218.8 in the eight-woman final on the championship’s final day to finish third. Greece’s Anna Korakaki — a gold medallist in 25m pistol at the Rio Olympics — won the gold in 246.3 ahead of Germany’s 21-year old Michelle Skeries (237.8).

Shri Nivetha Paramanantham finished fourth at 198.7. India returned from the championship with a haul of one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

Nivetha qualified for the finals in the third position ahead of Heena, who had qualified fifth. India had earlier swept the 25m standard pistol event podium with Neeraj Kumar winning gold, Harpreet Singh taking silver and Deepak Sharma bagging the bronze.

The experienced Tejaswini Sawant took silver in the 50m rifle prone while Pemba Tamang bagged bronze in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol.

Anmol Jain had won bronze in men’s 10m air pistol earlier in the competition.
Indian shooters made it to four more finals with Pooja Ghatkar finishing fourth in the women’s 10m air rifle, while Gurpreet Singh was sixth in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol. Germany’s Olympic champion Christian Reitz won gold in the category.
