Balakrishnan vaults to record

Bengaluru: P. Balakrishnan produced a standout performance on Day Two of the state junior and senior athletics championship as he set a new meet record at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.

The 26-year-old set a new record of 4.60 meters in men’s pole vault event, rewriting previous record of 4.50 meters held by K Rajesh (2011) and Vishnu Unni (2015).

“I felt 4.70 was possible it was a good jump, but my timing was a bit delayed,” Balakrishnan, whose personal best stands at 4.90 meters, said.

Earlier, Ganesh S claimed the gold in the 200M sprint clocking 21.7 seconds.
