Kalna (West Bengal): A young football player died after an on-field collision at Nischintapur village in East Burdwan district, police said on Monday.

Ripon Mali, 18, collapsed on the field on Sunday following an aerial challenge to save a goal, his teammates said.

He was taken to the nearby Madhupur Primary Health Centre and later shifted to Kalna Sub-divisional Hospital, where he was declared dead, a police officer said.

Mali was representing 'Chaitanyapur XI' against Doctor's XI' during the match.
