English football greats set to play legends match series in India

Emile Heskey is in touch with former England team-mates like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard to play in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.

Mumbai: Former England footballer Emile Heskey has said a Legends Match series — an initiative to promote and develop football in India— will include exhibition games featuring former England footballers along with coaching clinics in three cities.The former Liverpool star is in touch with former England team-mates like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard to play games in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru to kick-off the Legends Match, an initiative which will hit new cities in a phased manner.

“I am in talks with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler and a few of my other former team-mates to come here for the fans because they are simply amazing and they love English football. “We are also planning to conduct coaching clinics in various cities in India to start promotional activities in this football crazy country,” Heskey who had 62 caps for England, said on Friday.
