HYDERABAD: The Gachibowli Hockey Stadium in Hyderabad has received the prestigious Category-1 Field Certification from the international hockey federation (FIH), marking a significant milestone for hockey infrastructure in Telangana and across the country.

As part of the certification process, the FIH conducted comprehensive field and performance tests to assess the quality and playing characteristics of the facility. The evaluation covered the playing surface, ball roll and movement, surface uniformity, field dimensions, line markings, drainage, player safety, hockey goals, team and officials facilities, perimeter fencing, spectator amenities and other infrastructure required for hosting international-level competitions.

The stadium was found to comply with the prescribed FIH standards in all key areas. With this certification, Gachibowli Hockey Stadium becomes the first and only Category-1 water-based synthetic turf hockey field in the country, strengthening Hydera-bad’s position as a venue for international hockey.

Quality testing also confirmed that the hockey turf meets FIH — approved global product standards. The assessment found no manufacturing or installation-related deficiencies that could adversely affect ball performance or the quality of play. The field was found to meet international standards in terms of playing quality, performance, player safety and durability.

The FIH also conducted a detailed assessment of the stadium’s field lighting, which is critical for hosting international matches. The facility was certified as meeting the TV3 — level lighting requirements prescribed for Category-1 fields, ensuring suitability for televised international competitions.

The FIH Category-1 certification will remain valid until February 26, 2029.
