FIFA World Cup 2026: 8 Best Third-Placed Teams To Reach Round of 32

DR Congo topped the ranking of third-placed teams with four points and a goal difference of +1 after finishing third in Group K.
FIFA expanded the World Cup to 48 teams from this edition, and as in previous tournaments, the top two teams from each of the 12 groups automatically qualify for the Round of 32. Additionally, the eight best third-placed teams across all groups also advance to complete the knockout bracket.

DR Congo topped the ranking of third-placed teams with four points and a goal difference of +1 after finishing third in Group K. Sweden (Group F), Ghana (Group L), Ecuador (Group E), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Group B), Algeria (Group J), and Paraguay (Group D) also progressed after each collected four points during the group stage.
Algeria booked its place in the Round of 32 after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Austria in its final Group J match on Sunday, which featured two stoppage-time goals.
Senegal secured the final qualification spot despite earning just three points. The African side edged into the knockout rounds thanks to a superior goal difference over the remaining third-placed teams.
