Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Indian Cricketing Prodigy Who Shattered Age-Group Records

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is an Indian cricket prodigy from Tajpur, Bihar. A left-handed batter, he represents the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Bihar in domestic cricket. Known for his aggressive batting and fearless strokeplay, he has broken numerous records across domestic, youth international, and T20 cricket before even turning 16.
Sooryavanshi hails from Tajpur village in Bihar’s Samastipur district. With limited cricketing facilities available locally, he travelled nearly 90 kilometres to Patna almost every day alongside his father, Sanjiv Sooryavanshi, to pursue his dream. Despite the challenges, his determination and his father's support helped him progress through the ranks.
Historic IPL Records and Accolades
Sooryavanshi’s breakthrough on the professional stage came after the Rajasthan Royals signed him for ₹1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Since then, he has produced a series of record-breaking performances in T20 cricket.
In November 2024, he became the youngest player to sign an IPL contract at the age of 13. He later made his IPL debut at 14 years and 23 days, becoming the youngest debutant in the tournament’s history.
At 14 years and 32 days, he smashed a stunning 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, scoring 101 runs off just 38 deliveries. The innings remains the fastest IPL century by an Indian batter.
At 15 years and 29 days, he became the youngest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs. He also achieved the milestone in the fewest balls faced, getting there in just 440 deliveries and surpassing Andre Russell’s previous record.
India Under-19 and Domestic Milestones
Sooryavanshi made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in January 2024 at the age of 12, making him one of the youngest first-class debutants of the modern era.
He also played a key role in guiding India Under-19 to a World Cup title, earning the Player of the Tournament award. In the final against England Under-19, he produced a remarkable innings of 175 runs from just 80 balls.
In July 2025, he became the youngest player to score a Youth ODI century at 14 years and 100 days, reaching the landmark in only 52 balls against England. He also registered a 58-ball century against Australia Under-19.
The Phenomenal 2026 Season
In 2026, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi transformed from a highly anticipated prodigy into a cricketing phenomenon, producing one of the most dominant and record-breaking years in the sport.
Representing the Rajasthan Royals, he redefined T20 batting during the IPL 2026 season. His performances throughout the tournament earned widespread recognition, and he became the first player in IPL history to win five major individual awards in a single season.
