UP Warriorz done well securing four quality and experienced players.

The TATA WPL 2026 auction saw UP Warriorz secure Sophie Ecclestone for ₹85 lakh via right-to-match, Amelia Kerr return to Mumbai Indians for ₹3 crore, and Delhi Capitals sign Shree Charani for ₹1.3 crore. Speaking on ‘Match Centre Live Auction Special’, JioStar experts Aakash Chopra and Anjum Chopra analyzed Ecclestone’s price tag, Kerr’s value to MI, and Charani’s reward for her rapid rise and World Cup triumph.

Speaking on ‘Match Centre Live Auction Special’, JioStar expert Aakash Chopra shared his reaction on Sophie Ecclestone’s price tag, “Sophie Ecclestone is a bit of a surprise, but to be honest, the way this auction has panned out, all the money has gone to the batters or the all-rounders. While she has the ability of doing well with the bat in the lower order, she is primarily a bowler, and I'm surprised by her price tag of 85 lakh. Only one bowler has got a higher price tag than her, and that’s Shree Charani, which makes sense, because she had a wonderful ODI World Cup and is a World Cup winner. UP Warriorz used their RTM cards in a very good manner. I expected Sophie to go for a price tag of more than 1 crore, but she's gone for 15 lakh cheaper. That's just the way it is.”

On Amelia Kerr’s return to Mumbai Indians, “I predicted Amelia Kerr would be the most expensive overseas player in the auction at 4.75 crore, but she went for 3 crore. What surprised me most was Mumbai Indians buying her back despite limited purse, showing their clear philosophy of retaining key players. Since she helped them win two WPL titles, they weren't going to let her go. While I expected 2.75 crore, paying 3 crore is perfectly reasonable for a player of her caliber.”

Speaking on ‘Match Centre Live Auction Special’, JioStar expert Anjum Chopra praised Shree Charani’s rapid rise and World Cup success, “Shree Charani has had an outstanding 12 months, going from her debut with Delhi Capitals to returning to them after just a year. In between, she earned an India cap and won a World Cup. This ₹1.3 crore price tag is a fitting reward for her hard work and consistency. As a skilled bowler, she’s earned this performance-driven valuation. She deserves every bit of it, and while it’s a great start, I wish her an exceptional journey ahead."

Speaking on 'Match Centre Live Auction Special', JioStar expert Mithali Raj justified Deepti Sharma's 3.2 crore price tag, "Deepti Sharma fully deserved 3.2 crore for her dual skills as a spinner and left-handed batter who can bat anywhere. She improved her strike rate in WPL Season 3 and nearly won several games for UP Warriorz single-handedly. Her bowling covers all three phases - powerplay, middle overs and death overs. The confidence from her ODI World Cup performances makes her even more valuable, which explains her high price in this auction."

On UP Warriorz's core players Mithali said, "UP Warriorz have done extremely well in the auction so far, securing the services of four quality and experienced players. Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma as their quality spinners, Meg Lanning with her captaincy and batting skills, and young Phoebe Litchfield bringing fresh energy. These four players will form the team's core strength for the upcoming season."
