I Keep Asking Rohit About How To Read Situations : Yashasvi Jaiswal
Rohit Sharma's advice helps me a lot during my innings and handle pressure better.
India's road to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 began on a positive note with a commanding 3-0 ODI series sweep over Afghanistan. Speaking on JioStar's 'Cricket Live', Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal shared insights into his evolving role across formats and the team's long-term vision, while JioStar expert Sunil Gavaskar applauded Prasidh Krishna for making the most of his opportunity with the new ball.
Speaking to JioStar's 'Cricket Live', Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up about adapting to different formats:
"I don't think too much about which format I am playing. My focus is always on what the team needs from me and how I can prepare for that. Whether it's Test cricket, T20s, or ODIs, I make sure I adapt my game accordingly. Preparation is key for me, understanding the conditions, the opposition, and my role in the side. The communication with the support staff and Gautam Gambhir sir has been very clear. They have helped me understand my game better. I am really enjoying the process. Everyone is putting in the hard work, and that creates a good environment. My mindset is simple, whenever I get an opportunity, I want to go out there and give my best for the team."
On his conversations with Rohit Sharma:
"White-ball cricket demands a different mindset. And the best way to improvise that aspect is by talking to someone like Rohit Bhai. I have had a lot of conversations with him during this series, and even before the third ODI, we had some great chats. I keep asking him questions about how to read situations, how to play different bowlers, and how to handle pressure in the middle overs. He always gives me amazing answers. His advice helps me a lot during my innings. I feel more confident when I know what to expect. I am really enjoying this learning process."
On how watching his teammates succeed motivates him:
"I have been really enjoying watching the success of all my teammates. I learn a lot just by observing them – how they prepare, how they handle pressure, and how they perform in different situations. Even from the outside, it's amazing to see them do so well. It gives me a lot of motivation. Whenever I get an opportunity, I just go out and give my best. The environment in the dressing room is really positive. Everyone supports each other, and we genuinely enjoy each other's success. I think that is the best part of this team. That kind of culture makes you want to work harder and be better. I love being a part of it."_ *On the team's preparation for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027:
"The preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup has already begun. Everyone in the squad knows their role and what they need to work on. As players, our job is to focus on our game and execute our skills in the middle. We know that the World Cup is the bigger picture, but we can't get ahead of ourselves. We need to stay in the present and we take it one game at a time. Personally, for me, whenever a series or a big tournament comes up, I try to keep it simple. I don't overthink. I just focus on the next match. Of course, people have been thinking about the ODI World Cup, and there is a lot of talk around it. But we will cross that bridge when we get there. For now, I am just enjoying the moment and taking it one game at a time."
Speaking on JioHotstar's 'Cricket Live', JioStar expert Sunil Gavaskar praised Prasidh Krishna's spell with the new ball:
"That is the beauty of Indian cricket, there are always replacements ready and I think Prasidh Krishna could be at a turning point in his career. He has been in and out of the side and he went wicketless in the first ODI and didn't play the second game either. In the third ODI, he bowled fuller lengths and made the ball work. He got the new ball, which is rare for him. In this game, with the new ball in hand, he used it well. He read the pitch well, there was carry and a bit of zip. That is what you need to do as a fast bowler. In his heart, he is an attacking bowler. Fast bowlers love to make batters uncomfortable, make them hop and weave. That is where they get their joy. Earlier, he was bowling too short and getting punished. But now he is pitching it up, getting movement, and taking wickets. That is the change that has made the difference."
