Lucknow Super Giants expressed satisfaction with their auction strategy after securing key international players aligned with their team requirements at the TATA IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Match Centre Live Auction 2026’, LSG owner Dr. Sanjiv Goenka said the franchise had clear objectives and followed a disciplined bidding approach. “Our primary targets were one quality international leg-spinner and one reputed international fast bowler. Wanindu Hasaranga was our first-choice leg-spinner, while the fast-bowling option was between Matheesha Pathirana and Anrich Nortje. We are delighted to have acquired two players from our shortlisted three,” he said.

On missing out on Matheesha Pathirana, Goenka said the franchise went up to ₹17.8 crore, which was their maximum limit. “Our captain, vice-captain, and I were all keen on Pathirana, but we could not stretch beyond our purse. Getting Anrich Nortje later at the base price was a pleasant surprise and a big boost for us,” he added.

Goenka described the auction outcome as the result of a well-planned and thoughtful strategy, expressing overall satisfaction with how the bidding unfolded.
