BCCI Asks Rohit, Kohli to Play Domestics

Senior stars told to play domestic cricket to stay in ODI contention

The BCCI has reportedly directed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to participate in domestic tournaments if they wish to be considered for future ODI selections.

India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have reportedly been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to return to domestic cricket if they wish to be considered for ODI selection.

The directive comes as the BCCI looks to strengthen the link between domestic and international performance, especially with the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup in sight.

The duo, who have been rested from white-ball assignments following India’s 2025 Champions Trophy qualification campaign, could be asked to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, the premier domestic 50-over competition.

The BCCI’s move is part of a broader effort to ensure senior players stay in rhythm and set an example for younger cricketers. The board has previously emphasized that all players aspiring for national selection should participate in domestic tournaments when not on international duty.

Both Rohit and Kohli are expected to return for India’s Test series later this year, but their ODI future reportedly hinges on match fitness and domestic participation.
