Mumbai: Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah's recent surgery in England is "not a great success", it is reliably learnt. The 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler had a thumb injury during the T20I against Ireland on 27th June and had to miss the limited-overs encounters against England as he underwent an operation in England.
"It is a displaced fracture on the left hand thumb. From what I know, the operation wasn't a great success," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source, aware about the development, said.
The selectors have included him in the squad announced for the first three Test matches but it is doubtful whether he would be fully recovered before that.
"I guess technically he is out for 3-4 weeks but being a bowler and injury in his non-bowling hand, the team management might gamble if there is an emergency or they can make him to play with the bandages," the source added.
The source was also critical on players' fitness is only relied on Yo-Yo tests.
"In my opinion, fitness tests should be mandatory but the word Tests means a number of tests," he said.
"There should be a series of tests conducted with test different parameters. Since all the players are flown specially to Bangalore for the test, I'm sure there is enough time to conduct multiple tests and assess the player completely and not only on endurance," the gentleman, who is well conversant of the present policy, concluded.
