Contenders for India’s No 4 spot in ODIs named by Sourav Ganguly
The No. 4 position is perhaps one of the most widely debated subjects when it comes to the Indian batting order.
Mumbai: The former Indian captain has picked two youngsters who can rival KL Rahul for the No 4 position for India in ODIs. The No. 4 position is perhaps one of the most widely debated subjects when it comes to the Indian batting order. Failure to place someone dependable and consistent in that position has proved to be a huge headache for everyone.
There have been many changes and experiments done but no satisfactory result has come out of it. Options like Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu were tested in the number 4 position, but strangely nothing ever materialised. Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), has identified Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey as contenders for the No 4 spot in ODIs.
Ganguly, in his column for The Times of India, wrote, “With Rohit and Shikhar at the top as the best possible opening pair, KL Rahul will be pushed. He has lost his place in Test cricket due to indifferent form and the likes of Shreyas and Manish Pandey will keep him on his toes if he wants to hold onto the No. 4 slot.”
Recently, Shreyas Iyer is proving to be a gem for Team India, after his splendid performances against the West Indies in ODIs. He scored two half-centuries in the opportunities he got and cemented his place within the squad.
