Hyderabad Cricket Association president G. Vivekanand stuck to his guns and said he was right in not allowing former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin at Sunday's acrimonious meet.

Hyderabad: After his followers broke through the inner gates of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium to witness an IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils earlier this month, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan is back in cricket news.

This time, the Hyderabad Cricket Association is peeved at the Franchise owners slicing a chunk of their complimentary passes to be passed on to the Mayor for the benefit of officials in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

About 300 passes from HCA’s kitty of roughly 4,000 to be distributed among 220 clubs (at 18 each, one for every player) that make up the cricket body will be deducted. HCA officials say this is violation of the tri-party agreement to which the State cricket association, BCCI and the franchise are signatories.

The Mayor sought to distance himself from the row though. “Sunrisers Hyderabad are officially giving the passes to GHMC. We have nothing to do with comments coming out of infighting in the HCA,” he told this newspaper on Wednesday.

“The team owners give away complimentaries to the Police too. There’s nothing wrong in them extending the benefit to GHMC, which looks after roads, sanitation and other civic issues around the Stadium area,” he added.
