Mumbai: After Virat Kohli joked about James Anderson’s “technical deficiencies” dig and what transpired between the England pacer and R Ashwin after the former took field on Day 5 of the Mumbai Test, Alastair Cook termed the whole event “disappointing”.

England lost the fourth Test by an innings and 36 runs after Ashwin scalped six wickets to help India clinch their fifth Test series win in a row under Kohli’s captaincy.

Anderson, who troubled Kohli during India’s tour of England in 2014, on Sunday had said that Indian Test skipper’s technical glitches are not out in play on Indian pitches.

“I am not sure he has changed much. But it is just that whatever technical deficiencies he has got, are not in play out here. The wickets just take that out of the equation. There is not that pace in the wicket to get the nicks that we get in England with a bit more movement and pace in the pitch,” Anderson had said.

While Kohli managed to keep his cool as he answered a question on the England pacer, Cook did not hold back.

“It was a bit of a sour end really. A disappointing end in terms of how well the series between both sides has been played. It was a clear reference to what Jimmy said yesterday which has kind of been blown out of all proportions, which it can do here,” Cook said.

“He was just stating a fact which if you asked Virat is probably quite true. But yes it was obviously just ticking up for their captain which I thought was slightly unnecessary,” concluded the England skipper following his team’s series loss.
