Watch: When Cheteshwar Pujara's wife's sheer joy won everyone's heart

Puja Pujara cheered on for her husband as he notched up his 9th Test ton playing on his home ground in Rajkot.

Rajkot: After England plundered India for the first two days of the first India-England Test, Rajkot, which is hosting its first ever Test, got the moment they were waiting for as the local lad Cheteshwar Pujara scored his ninth Test hundred.

He was stranded on 99 for a while and went into tea making the local fans, including his family members; wait for what turned out to be a very special ton.

However, there was a nervous moment for India’s number three when he was on 86. Umpire Chris Gaffaney adjudged Pujara out after Zafar Ansari’s, England’s youngster who is a Cambridge University Alumni, delivery hit Pujara’s pads.

While the Alastair Cook-led England side was celebrating, Pujara turned to Decision Review System (DRS) as everyone at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium hoped for a result in Pujara's favour.

 

But as soon as it was clear that the extra bounce would mean that the ball would not hit the stumps and Pujara was safe, the entire SCA stadium erupted.

What caught everyone’s attention the most was how the sheer joy took over Puja Pujara, Cheteshwar Pujara’s wife, as she cheered her husband from the stands. She clapped and she jumped in delight as Pujara took guard once again.

 

Also in the crowd was a much relieved Arvind Pujara, Cheteshwar’s father and mentor, who watched his son bat for the first time in an international match.

 

While Pujara is not known to celebrate in grand fashion, his wife seemed to be a bit different from the Indian batsman. We must say it was really heartwarming to witness a sweet moment amidst the toil from the cricket field.
