Shikhar Dhawan to miss India’s ODI series vs West Indies: report

Having missed the first two matches of the three-match T20I series, Dhawan seems to need more time for fully recovering from his injury.

Apparently, it seems that India's prime and limited-overs opener, Shikhar Dhawan is running out of gas, as the southpaw has failed to produce any match winning performances in the shortest format of the game. During the last 12 T20Is, Dhawan piled up just 272 runs at a strike rate of 110.56. Moreover, among those 12 games, there were five games, in which he had a strike rate below 100. (Photo:AP)

Mumbai: Injured Shikhar Dhawan is likely to continue his absence from the Indian squad against the West Indies. He was picked in the squad for the West Indies series but has since been ruled out due to a knee injury suffered in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Having missed the first two matches of the three-match T20I series, Dhawan seems to need more time for fully recovering from his injury and looks set to miss out on the ODI series against Windies as well.

A report in the Bangalore Mirror stated that Dhawan needs more time to recover and the selection committee will name a replacement on December 15 before the first ODI starts. The report also states that Sanju Samson could continue as a replacement in the ODIs. Other players who could be in the squad are Shubhman Gill and Mayank Agarwal.

Before the West Indies series, BCCI had released a statement. It read, “The BCCI Medical Team assessed him to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely.”
