New Delhi: Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Mahendra Singh Dhoni can carry on his fine Indian Premier League (IPL) form this season into international cricket, with big assignments waiting later on.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) included MS Dhoni as a part of Virat Kohli’s India squad that would play two T20I matches against Ireland in June followed by the three-match T20I, ODI series against England in July.

"Another surprise omission is Rishabh Pant so selectors very rightly been placing their confidence in MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik. Very happy with MS Dhoni's form, probably he's batting his best at the moment. Hope he translates his IPL form in international cricket," Ganguly was quoted as saying to India Today.

While young Pant has been leading the scorecharts for Delhi Daredevils (DD), MS Dhoni has been in blistering form for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The veteran cricketer has scored 360 runs in 10 matches so far and has hit the most sixes this season, which has taken everyone by surprise.

Virat Kohli feels that this is a good sign for Indian cricket.

"Everyone loves to see MSD striking the ball. It is phenomenal the way he is doing it. The bigger picture is that it is good for Indian cricket. His form is a great sign for Indian cricket," the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper had said.

CSK, who sit second in the 2018 IPL table look on course to seal the playoff berth after returning from a two-year spot-fixing ban.
