Mumbai: Team India captain Virat Kohli recently opened up about his partnership with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and girlfriend Anushka Sharma during a funny yet insightful chat show hosted by Gaurav Kapoor.

Kohli said that both him and MS Dhoni have a great understanding, and that the 28-year-old has learnt a lot from the Jharkhand cricketer.

“MS (Dhoni) and me actually have a great understanding. When we are running between the wickets and if he says two, I just close my eyes and run, because I know that his judgement is so correct that I will make it,” he said, speaking during the programme Breakfast with Champions, hosted by Gaurav Kapoor.

He went on to praise the World Cup-winning captain.

“I don’t think I have come across a better cricketing brain, just in terms of planning and knowing what’s happening in the game and what can be done.

"Somewtimes, I like to follow my own instincts as well, but whenever I ask him anything, eight or nine out of 10 times, he will always tell you things that work. It is a blessing to have him.”

“Our friendship has grown over the years immensely. A lot of people try to spin a story, create a controversy, it doesn’t matter to us,” he said.

“The transition went so well. Him and I are very close. No one felt it on the field as well. I feel really lucky that he is still around in my initial years of captaincy, and I am learning a lot from him,” he added.

He also spoke about his relationship with Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, and how she has motivated him.

"I've learnt a lot, become more sensible in the last 4 years all because of her. She's taught me how to be more patient and taught me how to utilise the position you are in to the fullest,” he stated.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain also said that Anushka has motivated him, even during the good and bad times, especially during India’s tour to England in 2014.

"Luckily I have never tried to change myself over the years. But the flip has been because of her. That period in England in 2014. Anushka was there in my life, she understood what I was going through so she kept me motivated.”

"Her support helped me push through, however bad it was for me. She was a constant in that time... And then Australia happened (the tour in 2014-15 when Kohli scored four hundreds in four Tests) and I ended up scoring runs, in her presence. So it was a special thing for both of us because she also faced a lot of flak, “ he further explained.
