BCCI Urged to Take Up Telangana Case

Demanding a separate cricket association for the Telangana region beyond the districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri former chairman of the Sports Authority of Telangana Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy called for a protest at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai during the national cricket body’a Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 18.
“The BCCI is preparing to grant associate membership even to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which have a population of only 4 lakhs. Puducherry, with a population of 10 lakhs, has already secured BCCI associate membership. Similarly, associate membership should be granted to rural Telangana, which has a population of 2.5 crores,” he said.
The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) too weighed in. “If new cricketing territories deserve a pathway, Telangana deserves one too. Just as Gujarat (Baroda, Gujarat, Saurashtra) and Maharashtra (Maharashtra, Mumbai, Vidarbha) boast multiple representations, Telangana should also be considered,” TCA stated.
