The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka next year.
In a notable decision, the squad does not include current Team India T20 vice-captain Shubman Gill, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been selected for the marquee tournament.
Surya Kumar Yadav will be leading the team for the upcoming World Cup, with all-rounder Axar Patel named as his deputy.
At the press conference, Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said that Shubman Gill was left out of the World Cup squad due to a lack of runs.
"Obviously he (Gill) has been short of runs and since he wasn't picked, we needed a vice-captain," said Agarkar.
The BCCI also confirmed that the same squad selected for the 2026 T20 World Cup will feature in the upcoming five-match T20 International series against New Zealand, scheduled to be played in January.
Team India Squad: Surya Kumar Yadav (Captain), Axar Patel (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar and Ishan Kishan (WK).
