On Friday, the auditorium of Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) was filled to the brim with doctors and other enthusiasts who had come to witness a great act of charity.

Shuttler P.V. Sindhu, who had won Rs 25 lakh as prize money on a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 9, had pledged the amount to support those fighting cancer at the cancer  hospital which is in the forefront of helping cancer patients from economically backward backgrounds.

While formally handing over the prize money to Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chairman, BIACH&RI, she said, “I have seen many people suffering from cancer, especially the underprivileged. It gives me immense pleasure to do a small bit for the society from whom I have received so much adulation and support.” Balakrishna also pointed out how Sindhu, despite being so young, had taken up the responsibility to give back to the society. “She is so young, yet she is multi-talented. Not only has she won laurels for her country, but she has also won hearts with her humanitarian work,” he said.

Sindhu’s parents, P.V. Ramana and P. Vijaya were also present on the occasion along with V. Chamundeswaranath. They were later felicitated by Balakrishna.
